VBPD Investigation Leads to Recovery of Four Stolen Vehicles, Two Stolen Firearms, and Four Arrests
The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) is proud to announce the successful resolution of multiple cases involving larcenies from motor vehicles, vehicle thefts, and stolen firearms. The combined efforts of several units within the VBPD have led to the arrests of four juveniles, ages 15 to 17, and the clearance of 23 cases, with the potential for more.
At this time, the VBPD has recovered four stolen vehicles and two firearms. The suspects face multiple charges, including Grand Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Goods, and Possession of Firearms by Individuals Under 18.
This investigation highlights the growing issue of vehicle-related crimes, including the theft of firearms from unlocked vehicles that we are experiencing across Virginia Beach, Hampton Roads, and our nation. The VBPD urges all citizens to lock their vehicles, take their keys with them, and remove valuables, especially firearms, from their cars. These preventive measures can significantly reduce incidents of vehicle thefts and related crimes.
Police Chief Paul Neudigate emphasized the importance of community involvement in crime prevention, stating, “We have seen a direct connection between these crimes of opportunity and stolen firearms that end up used in violent incidents in our city. Our residents and visitors play a crucial role in helping VBPD keep Virginia Beach safe; by simply locking their vehicles and ensuring all valuables are removed, especially firearms, together we can keep guns out of the hands of those not legally allowed to possess them and those that intend to use them to commit further crimes.”
State law prohibits the release of information concerning juvenile arrest, therefore details regarding their identities and specific actions cannot be disclosed. The VBPD remains committed to preventing juvenile involvement in criminal activities through continued community engagement and specific juvenile related initiatives, led by our Youth Services Unit.
