VBPD Investigating Fatal Crash on Virginia Beach Boulevard
On March 5, 2026, at approximately 1:50 p.m., Emergency Communications and Citizen Services (ECCS) received a report of crash between a motor vehicle and an E-bike in the 4300 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard. Officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to the scene.
The bike rider, Charles W. Liles (M/66) of Virginia Beach, was transported to an area hospital with life‑threatening injuries. On March 7, 2026, Liles was pronounced deceased.
A preliminary investigation determined that Liles failed to yield when crossing into the path of the motor vehicle. The other driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
“E‑bikes continue to grow in popularity, but the laws governing safe operation have not changed, “Right‑of‑way rules exist to protect lives,” said Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate.” “This incident underscores how critical it is for every rider to slow down, look, and yield.”
“We are seeing a troubling trend of serious collisions caused when basic traffic laws are ignored. Safety is a shared responsibility; riders must stay alert and be cautious and must follow the rules designed to protect them. Our goal is to prevent these tragedies, but that requires accountability and awareness from everyone using our roadways.”
This incident remains under investigation by the VBPD Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to contact VBPD at (757) 385-4606 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or P3Tips.com.
