VBPD Arrests One in Shooting on Standard Lane
On May 14, 2025, at approximately 10:18 p.m., officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to the 200 block of Standard Ln. for a shooting.
Officers arrived on scene and found one victim suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wound(s). The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Within hours, Violent Crimes Unit detectives identified Robert Edwards Jr. (M/52) of Virginia Beach as the suspect. Edwards Jr. was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
“Once again, a shooting incident involves a convicted felon in possession of a firearm”, said VBPD Chief Paul Neudigate. "If we as a society truly want to reduce shooting violence, we must encourage our legislators to pass meaningful legislation that would cause convicted felons to think twice before picking up a gun.”
(Note: The charges mentioned in this press release are accusations, and the arrested individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.)
