Convicted Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Marijuana Arrested at Traffic Safety Checkpoint
On Feb. 8, 2025, the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) organized two safety checkpoints to deter and arrest those driving under the influence and to ensure drivers were properly licensed, inspected, and registered.
While operating one of the checkpoints in the 4400 block of Bonney Rd., an approaching vehicle made an illegal U-turn to drive in the opposite direction. A VBPD officer initiated a traffic stop, in which the vehicle fled.
Officers canvassed the area and apprehended the suspect, Earl Allen (M/34) of Virginia Beach. Allen is charged with Felony Eluding, Reckless Driving, Possessing Ammunition as a Convicted Felon, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Obstruction of Justice, Expired Registration, and Illegal Tint.
In total, the two traffic safety checkpoints resulted in 31 summonses issued and two Driving While Under the Influence arrests.
“I want to thank our Traffic Safety Unit and the other officers that assisted with these traffic safety checkpoints,” said VBPD Chief Paul Neudigate. “Targeted and aggressive traffic enforcement helps keep our roads safe for vehicles and pedestrians.”
(Note: The charges mentioned in this press release are accusations, and the arrested individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.)
