Commonwealth v. Demario Frimpon Rashawn Evans; Man Sentenced for Home Invasion Robbery involving “Purple Power”
Virginia Beach, Va. – Colin D. Stolle, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach, announced that Demario Frimpon Rashawn Evans, age 26, formerly of Beacons Way in Hampton, Virginia, was sentenced on charges of Statutory Burglary, Armed Robbery, Abduction with Intent to Gain Pecuniary Benefit, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (2 counts), and Conspiracy. He was found guilty of these charges after a three-day jury trial beginning on September 15, 2025. Circuit Court Judge Scott F. Flax, who presided over the trial, sentenced Evans to 61 years in prison with 42 years suspended, leaving 19 years to serve.
The Commonwealth’s evidence proved that on June 13, 2025, Demario Evans and the mother of his children, Ariel Thompson, conspired to rob a male acquaintance of Thompson. In addition to having children in common, Evans and Thompson were both members of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips gang. Thompson communicated with the victim via text message and arranged a plan for the victim to pick her up in Newport News then spend time together at the victim’s apartment in Virginia Beach. Evans and Thompson had previously discussed the victim and the expensive jewelry, clothing, shoes, and car he had, as well as their plan to steal these items from him.
On the evening of June 13, 2025, the victim picked up Thompson and drove her back to his apartment in Virginia Beach. They stopped at a 7-Eleven store on the way and were recorded on surveillance footage purchasing several items. Throughout the evening, Thompson kept Evans updated on her and the victim’s location. She told Evans she would unlock the victim’s door and would get the victim’s firearm away from him before Evans made entry to the apartment. Thompson texted Evans and directed him to enter the victim’s home. Evans and two other masked men entered the victim’s home and held him at gunpoint. They poured Purple Power, an industrial strength cleaner/degreaser used to clean vehicles, on his face and eyes. They stole jewelry, clothing, shoes, cash, drugs, and firearms then forced the victim into a utility closet.
In the days following the robbery, Evans, Thompson and other known members of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips texted and posted on social media, both wearing and attempting to sell the victim’s stolen belongings. Evans and Thompson were identified as suspects and located in South Chesterfield, Virginia. Detectives searched the vehicle they were associated with, and located the victim’s clothing, shoes, jewelry, and a receipt with the victim’s name on it. A thorough search of Evans’ and Thompsons electronics and social media accounts showed conversations between them about robbing the victim as well as being members of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips. Investigators also found pictures of them in gang clothing, displaying gang signs, and using gang language.
Thompson pled guilty to charges of Armed Burglary, Armed Robbery, Conspiracy, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Gang Participation. She was sentenced to 30 years with 21 years suspended, leaving 9 years to serve.
Evans has prior convictions for Malicious Wounding and Eluding Police.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorneys Katharine D. Aicher and Courtney E. Lewis prosecuted this case. Please contact Macie Allen if additional information is desired.
