Four Telecommunicators Graduate from VB911 Recruit Academy
Graduates now begin on-the-job training to include police radio positions and call taking.
Emergency Communications and Citizen Services (ECCS) graduated four new telecommunicators during its 66th VB911 Academy Graduation on Dec. 3.
The graduates endured an extensive 11-week classroom academy and will now start on-the-job training to include police radio positions and call taking. They will then advance to the next stage in their career progression. This process takes approximately 12-18 months.
An Integral Part of the Community
The City’s dedicated telecommunicators link residents with the help they need whether that involves dispatching first responders to an accident or helping to connect citizens with services. They’re an integral part of what makes our community a great place to live.
By the Numbers
Last year, Virginia Beach emergency dispatchers fielded approximately 202,143 emergency calls. They also issued 16 emergency notifications via the City’s reverse 9-1-1 system and VBAlert (text and email).
To help aid dispatchers, residents are encouraged to create a Smart911 Profile and register for VBAlert.
ECCS provides efficient, accurate, professional processing of emergency, non-emergency and information requests to residents and visitors to Virginia Beach 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Visit ECCS.VirginiaBeach.gov for more information on VB911, VB311 and VBAlert.
