Purchasing Division Earns National Award
Purchasing team in City's Finance Department is recognized for stewardship, professionalism, for the sixth time.
From playground equipment to police cars, streetlights, tide gates and pump stations, every asset owned by the City of Virginia Beach is procured by a team of employees in the Purchasing Division of the Finance Department. Now that team has been recognized for meeting the highest national standards for stewardship and professionalism.
For the sixth year, the City of Virginia Beach Purchasing Division has received the prestigious 2024 Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) from the National Procurement Institute Inc. (NPI).
The AEP Award is presented to agencies that meet or exceed national standards for innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership. The Virginia Beach Purchasing Division also earned the award in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
“This award demonstrates the Purchasing Division’s teamwork and collaboration, and a commitment to relationship-building and delivering extraordinary service to City departments, as we assist them in executing their missions for the residents of Virginia Beach,” said John D. Tigert, assistant purchasing manager.
For 2024, Virginia Beach was one of 72 cities nationwide to receive the award. The award also demonstrates the success of the Purchasing Division’s investment in training and certification, as well as its support from other City departments, including Information Technology, Budget and City leadership.
