New Neighborhood E-bike Safety Toolkit Helps Communities Share the Right Message
City launches Neighborhood E-bike Safety Toolkit to empower neighborhood associations, civic leagues and community leaders.
Electronic bikes (e-bikes) are becoming an increasingly popular way to commute, exercise and get around Virginia Beach neighborhoods. With that growth comes an important responsibility: making sure everyone — riders and non-riders alike — knows how to share neighborhood streets and paths safely.
To support that goal, the City of Virginia Beach has created a Neighborhood E-bike Safety Toolkit, a free set of ready-to-use materials designed specifically for homeowners associations, civic leagues and community leaders.
What’s Included in the Toolkit?
The toolkit was created to make it easy for neighborhood organizations to share consistent, accurate safety information without having to create their own content. It includes:
- A pre-written article that can be inserted directly in neighborhood newsletters, emails or websites
- A downloadable flyer suitable for posting on community bulletin boards, in clubhouses or common areas
- Pre-designed social media posts that can be shared on Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter and Nextdoor
Each item focuses on clear, practical e-bike safety guidance tailored to neighborhood settings.
Why the Concern about E-Bikes?
E-bikes can travel faster than traditional bicycles, which makes awareness and courtesy especially important in residential areas. The toolkit highlights key safety reminders, including helmet use, reckless behavior and being aware of vehicles. By sharing these messages locally, neighborhood leaders can help reduce conflicts, prevent crashes and promote a safer environment for everyone.
Making it Easier to Get the Word Out
Neighborhood volunteers already juggle many responsibilities. This toolkit is designed to save time while still making a meaningful impact. Materials may be used as-is or adapted to fit the unique needs of each community.
Download the Toolkit
The Neighborhood E-bike Safety Toolkit is available now at VirginiaBeach.gov/e-bikes and is free to download and share. Together, ourneighborhoods and the City can help ensure e-bikes remain a safe, positive addition to our community.
