Checking in on the Changes Along Elbow Road

Learn about the latest updates on the multi-phase expansion project designed to enhance safety and traffic flow.

Elbow Road

Residents and drivers along Elbow Road are seeing big changes between Salem Road and Indian River Road. The project broke ground in September 2024 and will expand the two-lane stretch to a four-lane divided roadway, improving traffic flow, safety, and the overall driving experience.

Here are the latest milestones:

  • Erosion and sediment controls have been installed to ensure minimal environmental impact.
  • The area that will be used for the new roadway bridge over the North Landing River is fully cleared.
  • Stone causeway construction for bridge access is underway to support the upcoming bridge-building phase.

Once complete, the four-lane roadway will include a median, 8-foot sidewalk, dedicated bike lanes, LED streetlights, landscaping and noise barriers in certain areas. Along with drainage improvements, the project will add over 300 trees along with shrubs, groundcover and grasses to enhance the area.

For now, drivers can expect to see traffic controls in the area such as signs, barrels and flaggers when necessary and are asked to use caution.
