Human Services Champions for Change

The opioid epidemic continues to impact the nation, including youth and their families in Virginia Beach. According to the Virginia Department of Health, Virginia Beach is consistently ranked in the top six out of 135 localities for overdose deaths in the Commonwealth.

Champions for Change

To raise awareness about the opioid epidemic in a fun environment that targets the youth and families, the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is hosting Champions for Change: A Fun-filled Fair Empowering Youth Over Addiction on Saturday, Sept. 28. The event is geared toward breaking the stigma surrounding those impacted by the use of opioids and overcoming barriers that may be preventing individuals from seeking help.

Residents of all ages are invited to attend to participate in several games and activities, while also receiving resources relevant to this serious issue. Peer educators and counselors will be at the event to answer questions and have open and honest conversations about their experiences and available services offered by the department.

Hosted in partnership with other City departments and community partners, Champions for Change will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. It is free and open to the public and lunch will be provided.

Register to attend this free event. Please note, all attendees must complete and sign the Virginia Beach Sports Center Liability Waiver to participate. Waivers can be completed online or at the event.
