Special Formal Session for Council to Vote on Additional Adult Curfew Consideration
A Special Formal Session will be held for City Council to discuss additional curfew measures at the Oceanfront. The session will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026, in the City Council Chamber, Building 1, at the Municipal Center.
The purpose of the Special Session is for City Council to convene in an Open Session to vote on a 9 p.m. Oceanfront curfew ordinance for all ages on Friday and Saturday nights through April 2026. If approved, the curfew boundaries would be from Pacific Avenue to the Boardwalk and from Rudee Loop to 31st Street. The 7 p.m. unaccompanied minor curfew is still in effect at the Oceanfront.
Exemptions would still apply.
- Any emergency errand reasonably necessary to safeguard life, limb or property.
- Lawful employment, including going directly from residence to the place of such employment or returning directly from the place of such employment to the minor's residence.
- Attendance at a specified engagement or performance, attendance at religious services or participation in any assembly or expressive activity protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.
Residents wishing to make comments in person must register with the City Clerk’s Office by calling 757-385-4303 prior to 4 p.m. on the day of the hearing. Walk up registration to speak is available. Speakers who register in advance are called to speak in the order they registered and may speak for three minutes. More information on speaking before City Council is available online.
The formal agenda, proposed ordinance and call for special session will be available Wednesday, April 15, on VirginiaBeach.gov.
