Waste Management Extends ‘Beat the Heat’ Collection Schedule

With summer heat continuing, Virginia Beach Public Works Waste Management is extending its 6 a.m. start time for waste and recycling collections, Aug. 18-21. The earlier start helps crews get ahead of the day’s temperatures while providing residents with a consistent setout time throughout the week. 

Residents should place their carts and other eligible materials at the curb by 6 a.m. on their collection day or the evening before.  

While temperatures and heat conditions may vary from day to day, maintaining the earlier start time throughout the week provides consistency for residents and allows collection crews the flexibility to begin work before temperatures rise.
