Curfew Implementation Update
The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) assisted with the 9:30 p.m. curfew authorized for April 17 and 18, 2026, for certain areas of the Oceanfront. Officers were deployed throughout the weekend to educate the public on the purpose and importance of the curfew, focusing on engagement not enforcement.
There were no shootings or significant violent incidents recorded during either night of the operation, a marked departure from the past few weekends and historical trends.
During curfew, VBPD officers made one adult arrest on Friday night and two adult arrests on Saturday night, crediting the cooperation of residents and visitors alike.
“I am incredibly grateful for the community's understanding and assistance with this weekend's effort," said Chief Paul W. Neudigate. “A unique response was necessary to interrupt the incidents of shootings involving multiple victims, allowing us to stabilize an area where we have been challenged year after year during our Spring season.”
The Virginia Beach Police Department extends its sincere gratitude to all residents and visitors who supported our officers and community. Your partnership is what makes Virginia Beach one of the most vibrant coastal communities on the East Coast.
