Virginia Beach Launches New Speakers Bureau

From traffic to history, marine life and public safety, City of Virginia Beach staff members have vast reserves of knowledge and experience. 

Now, those staff experts are available to share their expertise on a wide range of topics by speaking to groups of all sizes through the new Virginia Beach Speakers Bureau. 

“We are launching the Speakers Bureau to help Virginia Beach residents and businesses learn more about the City’s organization, operations, staff and issues,” said City of Virginia Beach Public Engagement Manager Nancy Bloom. 

“It is one of several new initiatives the City is working on to help educate our community on important issues and topics by connecting residents and businesses with City experts.” 

Organizers for all types of groups can request a speaker free of charge year-round to fit their group’s schedule and topic needs by visiting VirginiaBeach.gov/SpeakersBureau. Staff members of the Public Engagement Division of the Communications Office will work with the organizers to help select a suitable topic and speaker and make all logistical arrangements for the speaker to come to the group’s meeting.  

Bike, Tree, and Bench Buddies Program; FLOW (Fostering Love for Outdoors and Wildlife); Mayor’s Youth Leaders in Action; Open Data Portal; and tax relief programs are just a few of the many programs, services and topics that City staff can speak about.  

The City’s Public Engagement staff will provide additional information to the organizers to help promote the speech, including a photo and biography of the staff expert who will speak.
