Saluting Service: Honor Veterans at Annual Parade and Ceremony Nov. 11

The men and women who have served and protected our country and fought for our freedom will be honored on Nov. 11 in Virginia Beach with the annual Tidewater Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony.  

Veterans Day Parade

The parade begins at 9 a.m. at 16th Street and Atlantic Avenue and concludes with the formal ceremony at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial, across from the Virginia Beach Convention Center, 1000 19th St. It is free and open to the public. 

Designated as a regional event by the Veterans Administration, the parade will include a flyover by the Military Aviation Museum and military units from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Forces and Coast Guard that represent the military installations across the region. Veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom will participate, as well as numerous Tidewater municipal and veterans support organizations, including local high school bands and Scout groups.  

Veterans Day Ceremony

The formal ceremony featuring military, federal, state and local dignitaries will take place immediately following the parade at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial. Following the ceremony, veterans will be honored with a luncheon at the Double Tree Hotel near the convention center.

Honor Military Service with Memorial Paver Stone 

Any person who has ever served in any branch of the United States Armed Services is eligible to be honored with a paving stone in the William L. “Billy” Myers Sr. Veterans Memorial Park, located adjacent to the Tidewater Veterans Memorial, across from the Virginia Beach Convention Center. 

Individuals, groups and organizations are encouraged to dedicate a memorial in honor of military service.  

Two sizes of pavers are available, and names of newly added veterans are read during the annual Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies.
