Sandler Center Art Gallery: New Exhibit Features Works of Hampton Roads-based Artist Hillarey Breedlove

The next Sandler Center for the Performing Arts Art Gallery exhibition by Hampton Roads-based artist Hillarey Breedlove explores the complexities of the feminine experience in American society and the diverse and dynamic nature of womanhood. 

Breedlove, a large-scale painter, presents "Lather, Rinse, Repeat — Diary of a Homemaker," challenging traditional notions of beauty and femininity, inviting viewers to contemplate the complexities of womanhood in a deeper, more nuanced way. Breedlove employs a variety of techniques, including collages and mixed media elements, often referencing historical advertisements to highlight the evolving cultural landscape.

“Lather, Rinse, Repeat — Diary of a Homemaker” is on view now-Oct. 1, whenever the Sandler Center box office is open, as well as to event ticketholders during Sandler Center events.

The Sandler Center and Sandler Center Foundation will host a free, public opening reception for this exhibition, 6-8 p.m., July 13. The Sandler Center Foundation requests those planning to attend to please RSVP online in advance of the reception.

The artist, originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, creates large-scale, bold and expressive paintings inspired by the female experience within American culture. After graduating from the University of Tennessee, she married her high school sweetheart and became an Army spouse, granting her the opportunity to live and travel across the globe. She now resides in Suffolk, where she continues to create and exhibit in local galleries.
