Keeping Crab Creek Channel Clear
Maintenance dredging is underway to ensure safe passage for boats near the Lynnhaven Inlet.

Boaters navigating the Crab Creek channel will soon have a smoother and safer passage as maintenance dredging kicked off this week. Over time, sand and sediment naturally accumulate in waterways, making navigation difficult. This project helps to maintain a safe depth for vessels traveling to and from the Lynnhaven Municipal Boat Ramp. The effort allows safe navigation and vessel berthing for personnel conducting City-funded water dependent projects.Â
What the Project IncludesÂ
The maintenance dredging will focus on approximately 700 feet of the Crab Creek navigation channel, with additional spot dredging in front of the Crab Creek Wharf. In total, 5,000 to 6,000 cubic yards of sandy material will be dredged and placed at the Lynnhaven Sand Stockpile for future use, including renourishing Cape Henry Beach and Ocean Park Beach, helping to combat erosion and preserve the coastline. The project, which costs $288,000, is expected to be completed by March 1.Â
