Virginia Beach Shootings Cut in Half Over Three Years, Hitting Four-Year Low

As of September 30, 2026, our targeted violent crime reduction initiatives have yielded historic results for our community. Citywide shooting incidents have declined by 21.2% year-over-year, marking our lowest numbers in four years.

Additionally, when compared to 2023, we have sustained a 52.7% overall reduction in shootings citywide—effectively cutting gun violence in half over a three-year period. This includes a monumental 65% drop in our 4th Precinct and a 50% drop in our 2nd Precinct.

The 2nd Precinct lists YTD figures of 10 in 2023, 6 in 2024, 8 in 2025, and 5 in 2026, with a -37.5% YTD change and an overall change of -50.0%. The 3rd Precinct shows YTD totals of 16 for 2023, 11 for 2024, 12 for 2025, and 9 for 2026, marking a -25.0% YTD change and an overall change of -43.8%. The 4th Precinct records YTD numbers of 20 in 2023, 9 in 2024, 8 in 2025, and 7 in 2026, reflecting a -12.5% YTD change and an overall change of -65.0%. Finally, the Citywide Total row reports aggregate YTD figures of 55 for 2023, 29 for 2024, 33 for 2025, and 26 for 2026, demonstrating a -21.2% YTD change and an overall reduction of -52.7%.
