Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD) Asks the Community and Businesses to “Light the Night” in Red for National Fallen Firefighters Week, April 26 – May 3
45th National Memorial Weekend, May 2-3
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) will host its annual Light the Night in Red, the official national tribute honoring firefighters who died in the line of duty (LODD) during the previous year. As dusk falls, landmarks, homes, fire departments, and businesses across the country will be illuminated in red to remember these fallen heroes and support their families.
The Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD) is encouraging residents and businesses to participate by lighting their properties red during the week of April 26 through May 3, 2026, and/or on the evening of May 3. Participation is simple—replace a porch or exterior light with a red bulb to show support.
This year’s tribute honors 204 firefighters nationwide who lost their lives in the line of duty, as well as the 11 VBFD firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the Virginia Beach community.
By taking part in Light the Night in Red, the community can stand in solidarity with the fire service and help ensure the sacrifices of these brave individuals are never forgotten.
