VBPD Seizes Hundreds of Birds in Suspected Cockfighting Ring
On the morning of Aug. 22, 2025, the Virginia Beach Police Department Special Operations and Special Investigations bureaus responded to the 600 block of Princess Anne Rd. for a suspected cockfighting operation.Â
The initial investigation was sparked by citizen complaints involving unaccompanied aggressive dogs on the loose at the property. Surveillance later revealed a large number of birds on the premises.Â
The homeowner and owner of the birds willingly surrendered a total of 213 birds, including 36 adult roosters and two injured birds that were humanely euthanized. Â
The birds are now in the custody and care of the VBPD Animal Services Bureau. They will each undergo a mycoplasma test to determine their health and fate. Â
Evidence taken from the scene is being screened by the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney to determine charges.Â
Anyone with information relating to this case is asked to contact the VBPD Detective Bureau at 757-385-4101 or Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or P3Tips.com.  Â
