VBPD Makes Arrest in Malicious Wounding on Witchduck Road
On December 13, 2025, at 10:47p.m., the Emergency Communication and Citizens Services (ECCS) received a report of shooting in the 4600 block of North Witchduck Road.
Upon arrival, Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officers located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
The VBPD Homicide Unit was able to secure charges for Devante Lamar Burrus (M/27) of Norfolk in this offense. On January 14, 2026, VBPD Fugitive Apprehension Squad detectives took Burrus into custody for the following warrants:
·        Aggravated malicious wounding
·        Use of a firearm in commission of a felony
·        Possession of a firearm by convicted felon
"VBPD officers and detectives work hard every day to reduce gunfire and violence in our city," said Chief Paul W. Neudigate. "Once again, a convicted felon with a firearm has injured one of our residents. Repeat felons illegally possessing firearms are a major precursor to additional shooting violence. The VBPD has an unwavering commitment to identifying and pursuing these armed felons who terrorize our community and holding them accountable."Â
This incident remains under investigation by the VBPD Detective Bureau. Anyone with information is asked to contact VBPD at (757) 385-4101 or anonymously through Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or P3Tips.com.Â
(Note: The charges mentioned in this press release are accusations, and the arrested individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.)Â
