VBPD Makes Arrest for Stolen Firearm on 21st Street
On July 7, 2026, at approximately 1:33 a.m., a Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) supervisor conducted a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Cypress Avenue. A rear-seat passenger fled on foot carrying a rifle toward the 700 block of 21st Street.
Officers from the Ocean Front Community Oriented Police Squad (OCOP) established a perimeter, and the VBPD’s Special Operations K9 unit subsequently tracked the suspect, identified as a juvenile male. The individual was taken into custody without incident, and the firearm, equipped with an extended 30-round magazine, was successfully recovered.
A preliminary investigation determined the firearm was reported stolen from North Carolina. The suspect was also in possession of marijuana and oxycodone pills, which is a schedule I/II narcotic.
- Petitions for the juvenile were obtained, and he was charged with the following:
- Possession of a schedule I/II substance
- Possession of a firearm under the age of 18
- Possession of a firearm and a schedule I/II substance
- Possession of an extended magazine
- Possession of marijuana under 21
- Curfew
