VBPD Makes Arrest for Second Degree Murder on Florentine Way

On June 10, 2026, at 6:33 p.m., Emergency Communications and Citizen Services (ECCS) received a report of a shooting in the 5100 block of Florentine Way.

Upon arrival, Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officers located a female suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Jayda Edwards (F/20) of Virginia Beach, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives assigned to the VBPD’s Homicide Squad lead the investigation and identified Steven Trotman (M/22) of Virginia Beach as the suspect. On June 11, Trotman was charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
