VBPD Makes Arrest for Involuntary Manslaughter on Virginia Beach Boulevard

On March 5, 2026, at 1:09 a.m., Emergency Communications and Citizen Services (ECCS) received a report of a gunshot victim in the 2600 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard.

Upon arrival, an officer from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) located a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Shane Brooks (M/26) of Virginia Beach was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives with the VBPD’s Homicide Unit lead the investigation, identifying Ember McSpadden (F/19) of Virginia Beach as the suspect.

Preliminary investigation determined an unintended discharge of a firearm led to Brook’s death. McSpadden was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter.
