VBPD Makes Additional Arrests Related to Spring Break Weekend
On April 27, 2025, at 3:18 a.m., Emergency Communications and Citizen Services (ECCS) received a ShotSpotter alert and correlating 9-1-1 calls for shots fired at the intersection of 23rd St. and Atlantic Ave.
Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officers arrived on scene and confirmed shots were fired in the area. No injuries were reported from the incident. Ongoing investigation has resulted in the following arrests:
Nashun Simmons, M/23, of Hampton, Virginia, has been charged with Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Concealment of a Firearm (2nd Offense), Possession of a Switch Activator, Felony Destruction of Property, Shooting in a Public Place, Reckless Handling of a Firearm, and Use of a Machine Gun.
Jay’nod Harvey, M/22, of Newport News, Virginia, has been charged with Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Trigger Activator, Wearing a Mask in Public in Commission of a Felony, Providing False Identification to Police, and Unlawful Possession of an Extended Magazine.
Mark Aranjo, M/23, of Hampton, Virginia, has been charged with Possession of a Switch Activator and Use of a Machine Gun.
In total, VBPD seized three firearms, one of which was equipped with a trigger switch and an extended magazine.
