VBPD Makes a Double Arrest for Malicious Wounding on Warwick Drive
On May 31, 2026, at 8:04 p.m., the Emergency Communication and Citizens Services (ECCS) received a ShotSpotter alert for gunfire indicated in the 1200 block of Warwick Drive.
Upon arrival, Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officers located a crime scene. While investigating and searching for potential victims, officers were notified of a walk‑in gunshot victim at a local hospital. Officers identified the victim as Nyquez Baker (M/23) of Virginia Beach, who was treated for gunshot wounds, and his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The VBPD Homicide Squad assumed the lead of the investigation.
On June 2, 2026, detectives arrested Antonio McPherson (M/24) of Norfolk in connection with the incident. As the investigation continued, detectives developed additional leads identifying Nyquez Baker as a second suspect. On June 3, 2026, detectives arrested Baker (M/23) of Virginia Beach.
McPherson was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and reckless handling of a firearm resulting in injury.
Baker was arrested and charged with attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, reckless handling of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a violent felon.
