UPDATE: VBPD Makes Arrest in Fatal Shooting on Schoolhouse Road

During the investigation, Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) Detectives identified a 17-year-old male from Virginia Beach as their suspect.

On Dec. 5, 2024, VBPD officers arrested the juvenile on charges of First-Degree Murder.

“The continuing incidents of youth gun violence in our city is profoundly distressing,” said Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate. “While we are experiencing a 48% decrease in total homicides compared to 2023, the number involving juveniles continues to be alarming.”

This is the sixth homicide in Virginia Beach this year where juveniles have been implicated. In 2024, fifty percent of the homicides in our city have involved a juvenile as the offender, and 33.3% have involved a juvenile as the victim.

“One is too high, and these numbers should be of concern to our entire community,” said Neudigate. “I am once again pleading for parents and guardians to please remain vigilant about your teen’s behavior, social interactions, social media activity, and any signs of concern. Have open conversations about the risks and responsibilities of their actions.”
