VBPD Investigating Fatal Crash on Shore Drive

On Aug. 18, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to the 2400 block of Shore Dr. for a vehicle accident.

Upon arriving on scene, officers found two vehicles involved. The driver of the first vehicle, Benjamin Alvarado Jr. (M/48) of Virginia Beach, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  A female passenger in this vehicle was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, Samuel Randolph (M/22) of Norfolk, was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence, First Offense.  This incident is under investigation and additional charges are anticipated.
