VBPD Investigating Fatal Crash on Northampton Boulevard

On July 30, 2025 at 9:16 p.m., officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to the 5700 block of Northampton Blvd. for a crash involving a bicyclist.

The bicyclist, Douglas Bartholomew (M/54) of Virginia Beach, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation determined that Bartholomen attempted to cross Northampton Blvd. into the southbound lanes against oncoming traffic when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators.
