VBPD Investigates Fatal Crash on Sumter Drive

On July 29, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Emergency Communications and Citizens Services (ECCS) received a report of a crash involving a single-vehicle crash in the 2900 block of Sumter Drive.

Upon arrival, Virginia Beach Police Officers (VBPD) and Emergency Medical Services found the driver, Terry Berglund (M/76) of Virginia Beach, with life-threatening injuries.

Berglund was transported to an area hospital but was later pronounced deceased. A preliminary investigation found Berglund left the roadway and struck a tree.
