VBPD Investigates Fatal Crash on Laskin Road

On July 26, 2026, at approximately 1:36 a.m., Emergency Communications and Citizens Services (ECCS) received a report of a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Laskin Road.

Upon arrival, Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officers and Emergency Medical Services located the driver, Jerry G. Griggs (M/45), of Virginia Beach, who was suffering from life-threatening injuries. Griggs was transported to an area hospital for treatment. On July 27, 2026, at approximately 4:22 p.m., Griggs was pronounced deceased by medical staff.

A preliminary investigation determined that Griggs left the roadway and struck a traffic signal pole.
