VBPD Earns Prestigious Accreditation in Forensics from American National Standards Institute
The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) Forensic Services Unit has earned accreditation from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), solidifying the department’s forensic response capability.
ANSI’s National Accreditation Board recognized VBPD as accredited to the International Standards Organization (ISO) 17020 standard in latent fingerprints, making VBPD one of only 31 agencies in the United States to earn the accreditation.
Additionally, VBPD was given accreditation in scene investigation, making the department one of only 28 agencies in the United States to earn such recognition!
The ISO 17020 standard requires agencies to excel in complying with standards to ensure a quality work product that adheres to forensic science best-practices.
“This accreditation is a testament to the accurate, detailed, and thorough work that our Forensic Services Unit performs each and every day,” said VBPD Chief Paul Neudigate. “Our team produces reliable and effective results that positively impact our ability to serve our community and hold criminals accountable.”
