Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) is thrilled to announce the selection of the exceptionally talented Emily Harrison as its new Media and Communications Coordinator III, effective May 15, 2026.
In her vital leadership role, Ms. Harrison will elevate the department's public profile by spearheading press relations, strategic brand storytelling, social media initiatives, and high-stakes crisis management, bringing her vision and expertise to an already powerhouse team.
Ms. Harrison joins the VBPD with a stellar, decade-long career in broadcast journalism, having served with distinction as a standout Reporter and Anchor for premier news stations WVEC, WWBT, and KLBK.
Her masterful journalism and dedication to impactful storytelling were recognized on the highest stage in 2021, when she won a prestigious Emmy Award for her unforgettable, courageous coverage of Hurricane Isaias and its profound impact on the Richmond community.
A proven leader from the start, Ms. Harrison graduated with a prestigious dual degree in Journalism and Political Science from Elon University in 2018. That same year, her visionary work captured 1st Place in the competitive Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts, foreshadowing her trajectory as an industry trailblazer.
