VBPD Arrests Armed Suspect Following ShotSpotter Alert
On February 22, 2026, at approximately 1:55 a.m., Emergency Communications and Citizen Services (ECCS) received a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunfire in the 1300 block of Lynnhaven Parkway. Officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded immediately to investigate.
With support from the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), officers were able to correlate the alert with a previous incident and quickly identify a possible suspect. The investigation led to Frederick Gibson, (M/37) of Virginia Beach, being issued two summonses as required by law for the misdemeanor charges of Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits. A Taurus 9mm was recovered during this incident.
"Thanks to the rapid response of our officers and the real-time intelligence provided by ShotSpotter and the RTCC, a dangerous situation was resolved quickly and without harm. The officer’s swift actions addressed a threat to our community before the situation could escalate into additional gunfire," said Police Chief Paul W. Neudigate.
This incident remains under investigation by the First Precinct. Anyone with information is asked to contact VBPD at (757) 385-4377 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or P3Tips.com.
