VBFD is Hiring and Now Accepting Applications for Fire Academy #21 through Friday, October 30

The Virginia Beach Fire Department is now accepting applications for Fire Academy #21. The application period runs from Sept. 1 through Oct. 30, 2026.

 Prospective applicants are also invited to attend an Open House on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Harry E. Diezel Fire Training Center (927 S. Birdneck Road). Attendees will tour the state-of-the-art training facility, explore fire apparatus and equipment, and gain firsthand insight into what it’s like to serve as a Virginia Beach firefighter. Firefighters and wellness staff will be on hand to answer questions and assist with the application process.

 Applicants are encouraged to get a head start by completing the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT), which evaluates the physical skills necessary to perform essential firefighting tasks safely and effectively. Please note successful completion of the CPAT is required for employment consideration.
