UPDATE VBPD Makes an Arrest in Atlantic Avenue Shooting
Update 1:
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, April 13, 2026 – On April 13, 2026, the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) arrested Isaiah Charity (M/18) of Richmond, VA, for his involvement in the shooting that occurred on April 11, 2026.
Charity has been charged with eight (8) counts of aggravated malicious wounding, eight counts (8) of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and eight counts (8) reckless handling of a firearm with injury.

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, April 12, 2026 – On April 11, 2026, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officers patrolling the Oceanfront responded to sounds of gunfire, along with a ShotSpotter Activation, in the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue. Officers converged on the scene, locating eight individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. All eight victims were transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to serious. At this time, all victims are expected to survive.
VBPD Homicide Detectives led the investigation and determined two unrelated groups of young adults and juveniles began shooting at each other after an altercation escalated. Detectives determined at least three suspects exchanged gunfire, one of whom was also among the eight individuals shot. Suspect #1, who was also shot, was in illegal possession of two firearms and is currently in custody. VBPD Homicide Unit detectives are actively seeking information on the location of Suspect #2 and the identity of Suspect #3:
Suspect #1: Jamya Williams (F/18) of Henrico County, VA, arrested and charged with aggravated assault (x7), use of firearm in the commission of a felony (UOF) (x7), reckless handling of a firearm with injury (x7), and violations of a protective order (x3). Photo not available
Suspect #2: Isaiah Charity (M/18) of Richmond, VA, has outstanding warrants for aggravated malicious wounding (x8), use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (x8), and reckless handling of a firearm with injury (x8). Pictured Above.
Suspect #3: Unidentified male, Black, dark-colored hoodie with possible red lettering on the back.
The other seven victims were identified as follows:
1. (F/24) of Chesterfield, VA
2. (M/18) of Lancaster, VA
3. (M/20) of Lancaster, VA
4. (F/17) of Portsmouth, VA
5. (M/17) of Richmond, VA
6. (M/18) of Richmond, VA
7. (F/20) of Snellville, GA
During the course of the investigation, VBPD officers stopped and arrested Jahmari Savage (M/21) of Chesapeake, VA, who was in illegal possession of a concealed firearm. VBPD officers charged Savage with possession of a concealed firearm and seized a 9 mm handgun. Upon further investigation, it is not believed that Savage was related to the shooting.
