Temporary Water Outage Impacts Municipal Center Area; Service Restored
A planned shutdown of a water line near the Municipal Center led to a temporary water outage for about 1,000 residents in nearby neighborhoods.
The shutdown was part of preparations for a scheduled meter replacement. When a valve failed, crews had to adjust further down the distribution line, which inadvertently interrupted service in areas including West Neck, Courthouse Estates and the Princess Anne to Indian River corridor.
All water service has been restored, and no customers are without water.
The Department of Public Utilities confirms that drinking water was never compromised and remains safe. Some residents may notice sediment in their water. This is not harmful. To clear it, run cold water from the lowest faucet in your home, such as a bathtub or utility sink, for several minutes until it runs clear.
The meter replacement work has been canceled and will be rescheduled.
The Department of Public Utilities is reviewing the incident.
