Emergency roadwork will result in temporary lane closures on southbound Independence Boulevard between Virginia Beach Boulevard and Columbus Street.
Starting at 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 21, three southbound lanes of Independence Boulevard will be closed for milling operations. Left turns onto Columbus Street also will be restricted during this time. This closure is expected to be in place until 2 p.m., Sept. 21.
Starting at 9 p.m. on Sept. 23, three southbound lanes of Independence Boulevard will be closed for paving operations. Left turns onto Columbus Street also will be restricted during this time. This closure is expected to be in place until 5 a.m., Sept. 24.
Milling and paving operations are likely to produce traffic delays, congestion and some construction noise. Advanced warning signs will be clearly posted advising motorists of lane closures. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes when possible. All work on this project is weather permitting.
Questions may be directed to Dennis Simon with the Virginia Beach Department of Public Works at 757-615-2094.
