Technology Assists VBPD in Quick Arrest of Lynnhaven Parkway Robbery Suspect
On Nov. 24, 2024, at approximately 9:37 a.m., officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to the 800 block of Lynnhaven Pkwy. for a report of a robbery. It was determined an armed robbery had occurred and the suspect had discharged his firearm inside the business; no individuals were struck.
The VBPD Detective Bureau was able to gather evidence from various camera systems, to include residential and commercial security cameras, City-owned cameras, and Flock license plate readers to develop a suspect.
On Nov. 26, 2024, detectives arrested Dominque Leary, M/22, of Virginia Beach, on charges of Armed Robbery, Armed Burglary, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Violent Felon, Wearing a Mask, Discharging a Firearm Within a Building, Shooting Across a Roadway, and two counts each of Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony and Abduction.
“I want to thank the numerous officers and detectives that worked tirelessly to investigate this case and quickly apprehend an individual that brazenly robbed and threatened our community members at their place of employment,” said VBPD Chief Paul Neudigate. “This is yet another example of camera technology, especially license plate reader technology, helping us identify and arrest suspects who prey on our community. Within two days, our officers were able to identify and safely arrest the suspect in this incident. This is a direct result of our officers having access to these critical law enforcement tools.”
(Note: The charges mentioned in this press release are accusations, and the arrested individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.)
