On December 24, 2025, at approximately 4:51 P.M., Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunfire in the 500 block of Newtown Road. Officers quickly canvassed the area and detained two individuals: Jasbert McBride (M/38) and Jason McBride (M/37) both of Norfolk, Virginia, and recovered a 9mm handgun that had been discharged.
Officers from the Third Precinct Crime Suppression Squad secured the following charges:
Jasbert McBride was arrested and charged with:
·        Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
·        Brandishing a firearm
·        Discharging a firearm within city limits
·        Public intoxication
Jason McBride was arrested and charged with:
·        Providing a firearm for a felon
·        Concealed weapon, second offense
·        Public intoxication
“This arrest was due to the outstanding work of our officers, as well as the advanced technology we rely on,” said Chief Paul W. Neudigate. “The rapid response and effective use of ShotSpotter ensured that these two individuals, one of which is a convicted felon legally barred from possessing a firearm, were quickly taken into custody and prevented from causing further harm in our community. If you come to Virginia Beach to engage in crime, especially gun related violence, our officers and detectives will use every resource available to hold you accountable.”
Note: The charges mentioned in this press release are accusations, and the arrested individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
