ShotSpotter Alert Leads to Arrest on Hampshire Lane

On July 9, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 700 block of Hampshire Lane.

Upon arrival, VBPD officers located an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound, who was later identified as Derrick Outlaw (M/48) of Virginia Beach. Outlaw was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

During the investigation, officers identified Lashawn Lindsey (M/46) of Virginia Beach as the suspect. Lindsey was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of firearm by a convicted felon. This is an active homicide investigation; more charges could be forthcoming.

Lindsey was transported to Virginia Beach City Jail and is currently being held without bond.
