Red Wing Park to Close Beginning Oct. 3 for Roadway Improvement Project

Red Wing Park is closing beginning Oct. 3 through early 2025 for a roadway improvement project.

The park, located at 1398 General Booth Boulevard, will close to allow for necessary roadway improvements including widening of the entry way to the park as well as repaving the parking lots and park lanes throughout the park. These improvements are essential for enhancing traffic flow and safety.

“We understand the impact this may have on the community, and we appreciate the community’s patience and understanding,” said Michael Kirschman, director of the Virginia Beach Department of Parks and Recreation. “We look forward to opening Red Wing Park with enhanced accessibility in time for the 2025 Cherry Blossom Festival.”

During this closure, all park entryways and facilities, including playgrounds, tennis courts, walking paths, and athletic fields, will be closed and unavailable to the public. The Red Wing dog park will also be closed during renovations. Dog owners are encouraged to visit the Marshview Dog Park located at 136 Marshview Drive.

Alternative recreational spaces are available at many parks throughout the city. Download the VB Park Finder app to search for parks and facilities by name, location and specific features such as playgrounds, ball fields, kayak launches and more. At home or on the go, you can find the nearest park, get driving directions, view hours and see available amenities.
