Eighty Members of Virginia Task Force 2 (VA-TF2) USAR are Returning to Hampton Roads Today, Saturday, October 12, 2024
Eighty members of the Virginia Beach-based Urban Search and Rescue Team, Virginia Task Force 2 (VA-TF2), are returning to Virginia Beach today, Saturday, October 12. The team is expected to arrive at the Harry E. Diezel Fire Training Center, 927 S. Birdneck Road, at 1600 (approx.). They demobilized yesterday and left from Savannah, Georgia, this morning.
VA-TF2 was deployed, as a Type 1 team, to Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, to stage in preparation to respond to the landfall of Hurricane Helene. Over the past two weeks, VA-TF2 was assigned to carry out multiple missions in various areas of Florida and then reassigned to Mitchell County, North Carolina. They were then reassigned to stage in Savannah, Georgia, for response to Hurricane Milton.
The 17 member Mission Ready Package—Water Rescue (MRP-WR) team continues to work in Florida in response to Hurricane Milton.
