Commonwealth v. Ricardo Anthony Allwood; Previously Convicted Felon Sentenced to 33 Years for Brutal Attack of Ex-Girlfriend

Virginia Beach, Va. – Colin D. Stolle, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach, announced that Ricardo Anthony Allwood, age 47, formerly of the 900 block of Washington Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia, was sentenced for charges of Armed Burglary, Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Abduction, and Assault and Battery. He was found guilty of these charges after a jury trial on July 2, 2026.  Circuit Court Judge Jonathan L. Stone, who presided over the three-day jury trial, sentenced Allwood to 80 years and 12 months in prison with 47 years and 12 months suspended, leaving 33 years to serve.

The Commonwealth’s evidence proved that on January 18, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Allwood forced his way into the victim's Virginia Beach residence by using a knife to break through the front door and door frame. The victim, who had ended her 13-month relationship with Allwood approximately three weeks earlier, was able to capture the beginning of the attack on her cell phone. The video recording showed Allwood striking the victim and knocking her to the ground. Allwood repeatedly beat and stabbed her before dragging her from the living room into a bedroom, where the hours-long assault continued.  He stabbed her multiple times and beat her on her head, back, and arms with a baseball bat.  At one point, Allwood forced her to lie in bed with him.

Several hours later, the victim convinced Allwood to take her to the hospital for medical treatment. Upon arriving at the hospital, Allwood fled in his vehicle, ignoring a Virginia Beach Police Officer’s commands to stop. Officers located Allwood about an hour later on North Witchduck Road and took him into custody without incident.

Forensics personnel found blood in the living room and bedroom of the victim’s home.  Allwood’s clothing at the time of his arrest matched the clothing visible in the victim's video and contained stains that appeared to be blood.  There were also red stains on the passenger seat of Allwood’s vehicle.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries, including multiple stab wounds and a collapsed lung.  She continues to suffer lasting effects from the attack, including breathing difficulties, chronic hearing problems, and permanent scarring.

Allwood has prior convictions for Rape, Forcible Sodomy and Abduction.  Due to the crimes committed in this January 2025 case, Allwood faces a probation violation hearing on December 9, 2026.
