City of Virginia Beach Responds to Winter Storm Warning

Recreation Centers, Central Library Close 7 p.m. Tonight; City Facilities to Open 11 a.m. on Jan. 22

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Virginia Beach. All City recreation centers and the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library will close at 7 p.m. tonight, Jan. 21. All other library branches will close at their normal hour.  

City facilities will open at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Public Works crews and Parks & Recreation Landscape Services are treating snow routes and critical public safety buildings. The City will continue to closely monitor the storm’s development and coordinate efforts to ensure readiness for any impacts we may experience.  

Residents can stay informed during local emergencies including major weather events by signing up for VBAlert. Text “VBAlert” to 67283 or sign up at VirginiaBeach.gov/VBAlert to receive important messages and emergency alert notifications from the City of Virginia Beach and Emergency Management during inclement weather.
