City Council Appoints Dana Harmeyer as Acting City Attorney
The Virginia Beach City Council appointed Deputy City Attorney Dana Harmeyer as acting city attorney during its meeting Tuesday, Oct. 6. Harmeyer will assume the role following the passing of City Attorney Mark D. Stiles, who served the City for more than three decades. Â
Harmeyer currently oversees the Office of the City Attorney’s General Government practice area and has been a member of the office for 18 years. During his tenure, he has represented the City in matters involving local taxation, municipal finance, budget and procurement issues, elections and First Amendment law. He is widely respected within the organization for his institutional knowledge, judgment and commitment to public service. Â
“Dana has been an integral part of our legal team for nearly two decades, and his experience and steady leadership will help ensure continuity during this difficult time,” Mayor Robert M. “Bobby” Dyer said. “We are grateful for his willingness to step into this role as we honor Mark’s legacy and continue the essential work of serving our community.” Â
Harmeyer earned his law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary. Â
A search process for the permanent city attorney will be announced at a later date.Â
