ALPR Technology Assists VBPD With Arrests of Three Suspects in Barberry Lane Armed Robbery

The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) has successfully leveraged Advanced License Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology as part of its investigation leading to the apprehension of three individuals in connection with an armed robbery that occurred earlier this month.

On October 2, 2026, Virginia Beach Emergency Communications and Citizen Services received a call regarding an armed robbery in the 3000 block of Barberry Lane. Upon arrival, VBPD officers located a juvenile male victim who was fortunately uninjured. The initial investigation revealed that suspects allegedly threatened and attempted to rob the victim at gunpoint before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.  Detectives quickly utilized the department's ALPR system to identify the suspect vehicle, providing critical leads that accelerated the investigation and allowed officers to safely take the suspects into custody over the following days.

"Our investment in ALPR technology continues to prove invaluable in removing violent offenders from our streets," said Chief Paul W. Neudigate. "By delivering actionable information to our detectives, this technology turned what could have been a prolonged investigation into swift arrests, ensuring accountability and enhancing safety for our community."

As a result of the coordinated investigation, three suspects were identified and charged.

Te’Shaun Artis, 19, of Virginia Beach, was apprehended on October 4, 2026, and is charged with robbery with a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Traiton Goldie, 18, of Virginia Beach, was apprehended on October 4, 2026, and faces identical charges of robbery with a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Juvenile Male, 17, of Virginia Beach was apprehended on October 9, 2026, and is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
