Discover All Virginia Beach Public Library Has to Offer with a Library Card

During National Library Card Sign-up Month, register for a card and unlock endless possibilities at VBPL branches.

Library card sign up

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, and the Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) is celebrating in a big way with fun activities, events, eye-catching displays, and of course, library card sign-up stations at branches across the city.

National Library Card Sign-up Month is a nationwide campaign led by the American Library Association to remind families, students and lifelong learners that one small card is the first step toward a lifetime of discovery.

One Card, Endless Possibilities

A VBPL card may be small, but it packs a powerful punch. Your free library card is more than just access to books. It’s your ticket to new skills, exciting experiences and a world of opportunities. With it, you can:

  • Borrow beyond books — think games, craft kits and tools from the Library of Things
  • Join free book clubs, movie nights, crafting classes and even try your hand at coding robots.
  • Access Wi-Fi, career coaching, 3D printing and digital tools to help you reach your goals.
  • Grow something new with our Seed Library, or spark your imagination with our Digital Library, available 24/7.
  • Write, create and connect in spaces designed for inspiration.

Sign Up at the VBPL Block Party

VBPL encourages you to register for a library card this month (and all year long). And there’s no better time to get a card and celebrate than at the Library Card Sign-up Month Block Party. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the Kempsville Area Library, enjoy free food, giveaways, a live DJ, games and more. Be sure to snap a selfie with the giant library card prop and share it on social media — don’t forget to tag @vbplibrary

The event is open to all ages. Registration is recommended.

Library cards are free for all ages with proof of Virginia or Currituck County, North Carolina residency. Non-residents can also obtain a VBPL card for a fee.

Getting a library card is fast and empowering. It’s your passport to knowledge, creativity and community connection. Ready to unlock your next adventure? Sign up for a library card by visiting any VBPL branch or online at Libraries.VirginiaBeach.gov.

With a VBPL card, the possibilities are truly endless!
