The Virginia Beach Fire Department Cadets received a Hampton Roads Volunteer Achievement Award from VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads at a ceremony held April 27 in Virginia Beach. The cadets were honored in the Youth Volunteer Group category for their excellent community service and selfless desire to help others. VOLUNTEER HR annually recognizes the region’s most outstanding volunteers based on length of service, initiative and impact on the community.

The Fire Cadets are often called upon as volunteers to assist with VBFD events such as graduations, award ceremonies, memorials and large-scale training evolutions. They have also volunteered for the Special Olympics Competition, 9/11 memorial, Neptune Parade, Life Safety events, and much more. The primary goals of the program are to help young adults choose a career path within fire and emergency services and to challenge them to become responsible citizens of their communities and country.
