Training for Guardians of Incapacitated Adults Offered in Virginia Beach
Attending one session May 18 or May 20 satisfies Virginia’s new training requirement.
Guardianship is a meaningful responsibility — and one that comes with important legal and ethical duties. To support guardians across the Commonwealth, the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services and Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) are partnering to offer two in-person Virginia Guardian Training sessions this May at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library.
Training Dates
- May 18, 2026, 4:30-7 p.m.
- May 20, 2026, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Training Requirement for Virginia Guardians
Attending one session will satisfy Virginia’s new training requirement for guardians of incapacitated adults. This applies to family members appointed as a guardian, as well as professionals performing a guardian’s duties on their behalf.
Here are the deadlines to know:
- Guardians appointed on or after July 1, 2025: Training must be completed within 120 days of qualification.
- Guardians appointed on or before June 30, 2025: Deadline to complete training is Jan. 1, 2027.
